![In Memoriam: Norman Volk, Former AFAR Board Member]()
AFAR is deeply saddened by the passing of recent AFAR Board Member Norman Volk: a respected leader dedicated to healthy aging and committed supporter of our mission.
Mr. Volk was the President of Chamberlain & Stewart Associates since 1985 and served on AFAR’s Board of Directors from 2020-2023.
His wider contribution to the field of aging and health was substantial. He was elected President of the John A. Hartford Foundation in 1997 and was Chair from 2002 to 2015 when he retired. During his tenure, AFAR received multiple grants from the John A. Hartford Foundation to advance geriatric medicine and aging research.
Mr. Volk also served as a member of the Advisory Council of Stanford University’s Center on Longevity starting in 2009 and was a member of the New York University College of Nursing Board of Advisors since its inception in 2005, where he endowed the annual Norman and Alicia Volk Lecture on Geriatric Nursing. He was a Trustee at Valparaiso University and was a member of the National Council at its College of Nursing. In 2005, Mr. Volk became a member of the New York State Delegation at the White House Conference on Aging.
AFAR is grateful for Mr. Volk’s steadfast commitment to aging research, and we are inspired to continue his invaluable legacy through our mission.
