Senolytics

AFAR Board President James L. Kirkland, MD, PhD, highlights inflammation, macromolecular/organelle dysfunction, stem cell and progenitor dysfunction, as well as cellular senescence as fundamental aging mechanisms. Presenting findings from research into the transplantation of senescent cells, he gives an overview of clinical trials of senolytics, and the emerging evidence for benefits of senolytics on a range of senescence- and age-related conditions.

Targeting Aging with Metformin (TAME):
A Concrete Plan to Pave the Way for Targeting Aging

AFAR Scientific Director Nir Barzilai, MD, explains the potential of Metformin, a standard medication for diabetes, in guarding against many of the known mechanisms of aging. Expecting Metformin to act as a general-purpose geroprotector, Dr. Barzilai highlights TAME, a pioneering trial in the US that will serve to determine Metformin's ability to slow the aging process and extend healthspan.

AFAR Think Tank Reports Finding

AFAR Board Member Richard G. A. Faragher, PhD, summarises the findings of "GeroFutures Think Thanks", a report to explore the challenges and opportunities facing aging research.
