AFAR is pleased to share our Ask the Expert interview with David J. Marcinek, PhD, Co-Director of The University of Washington Nathan Shock Center.
Dr. Marcinek shares how The University of Washington Nathan Shock Center’s four cutting-edge Research Cores —focusing on proteomics, metabolomics, invertebrate models, and explainable AI—are advancing our understanding of biological aging. He also discusses the importance of collaboration across Centers and how advances in data analysis and biomarker identification are accelerating the translation of aging research to human health.
AFAR serves as the Coordinating Center for the National Institute on Aging’s eight Nathan Shock Centers of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging, which provide leadership and technical support in the pursuit of basic research into the biology of aging. The Nathan Shock Centers Coordinating Center (NSC3) provides coordination and communication between the Centers, the NIA, and the biology of aging research community.
