On May 18, 2023, Nature Aging published a Correspondence by Sofiya Milman, MD, MS, Principal Investigator of the SuperAgers Family Study, which is the centerpiece of AFAR’s multi-year SuperAgers Initiative.
In "SuperAger Initiative: Unlocking the Genetic Potential of Exceptional Longevity," Dr. Milman outlines how aging research at large benefits from studying the biology of those 95 and older. The article highlights the contribution that our DNA may play in increasing our healthspan and the need to unravel the genetic architecture of exceptional longevity.
The SuperAger Family Study, led by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, aims to assemble the largest cohort of SuperAgers to date, providing more data to accelerate the discovery of longevity-associated genetic variants. The Study intends to enroll 10,000 individuals aged 95 and older, along with their children and children’s spouses.
