On September 18, 2023, CNBC published an article on AFAR’s SuperAgers Family Study featuring insights from Principal Investigator and AFAR grantee Sofiya Milman, MD, MS, and 100-year-old Study participant Madeline Paldo on the secrets to living an exceptionally long and healthy life.
In the article, participant Madeline Paldo cites several factors—including a balanced diet, active social life, and optimistic disposition—that she believes may have contributed to her exceptional longevity. Dr. Milman, Principal Investigator of the SuperAgers Family Study, adds that, “In general, women’s average lifespan is longer than men’s… And we do think that genetics [also] has a lot to do with [longevity].”
The SuperAgers Family Study, led by AFAR in collaboration with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Boston University School of Medicine, aims to collect data from a large group of individuals who have lived to age 95 or more. The Study's goal is to understand and uncover the biological factors contributing to healthy aging and exceptional longevity shared among the SuperAgers and their families
