On July 18th , 2025, Next Avenue published an article highlighting AFAR SuperAgers Family Study participant Ira Eliasoph, MD, and featuring insights from the study’s principal investigator, Sofiya Milman, MD, MS.
Dr. Milman highlighted factors that could influence SuperAgers’ longevity, emphasizing that while genetics have a significant impact on longevity, lifestyle interventions, such as exercise and social connectivity, can help to extend healthspan and delay age-related diseases.
Dr. Eliasoph discusses his long, healthy life and his excitement for joining the SuperAgers Family Study. The 95-year-old White Plains resident was a lauded ophthalmologist and professor in New York City for over seventy years and proudly served as a Medical Officer in the US Navy.
Dr. Milman is a 2012 AFAR Postdoctoral Fellow and a 2015 Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging scholar. She is the Director of Human Longevity Studies at the Institute for Aging Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine as well as the Principal Investigator of the AFAR SuperAgers Family Study.
The SuperAgers Family Study, led by AFAR in collaboration with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Boston University School of Medicine, aims to collect data from a large group of individuals who have lived to age 95 or more. The Study's goal is to understand and uncover the biological factors contributing to healthy aging and exceptional longevity shared among SuperAgers and their families.
