AFAR in the News: SuperAgers Family Study and Principal Investigator Sofiya Milman featured in Market Watch

On September 6, 2023, Market Watch featured insights from Sofiya Milman, MD, MS, on the SuperAgers Family Study and unlocking the secrets to exceptional longevity. Dr. Milman is the Prinicipal Investigator of the SuperAgers Family Study, which is a multi-year strategic initiative of AFAR.

In the article, Dr. Milman describes the goals of the Study and the important role of genetics in healthspan and lifespan. “Lifestyle is also important, but we’re finding that not all SuperAgers have perfect lifestyles. Genetics is the key that is stronger.” Milman also mentions the important role that Study participants play, noting that “it’s an opportunity for people to become ‘citizen scientists.’ ”

Led by AFAR in collaboration with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Boston University School of Medicine, the Study aims to collect data from a large group of individuals who have lived to age 95 or more. The Study's goal is to understand and uncover the biological factors contributing healthy aging and exceptional longevity shared among the SuperAgers and their families
