On May 15, 2023, Aging published a new research paper co-authored by AFAR experts James L. Kirkland, MD, PhD, Laura J. Niedernhofer, MD, PhD, and Nathan K. LeBrasseur, PhD. Their research was featured as the cover story.
In this study, “In vitro and in vivo effects of zoledronic acid on senescence and senescence-associated secretory phenotype markers,” the authors tested multiple complementary approaches to evaluate the possible effects of zoledronic acid—which has been found to reduce fracture risk and, in some studies, extend the lifespan and healthspan of animals—on modulating cellular senescence.
