GeroFutures
Think Tanks Report

From May to October 2021, AFAR convened a series of GeroFutures Think Tanks inviting cross-sector, global leaders to share their insights wrestle with tough questions about the main challenges and most promising areas facing aging research and therapeutic opportunities. The sessions brought together scientists, funders, and entrepreneurs from across the research, philanthropic, policy, and biotechnology sectors from Australia, Israel, the Netherlands, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, and beyond.

The three Think Tanks explored:

  • Supporting Basic Science and Geroscience;
  • Inviting Investment in Gerotherapeutics; and
  • Preparing the Translational Research Pipeline.

Across the three Think Tanks, two major takeaways emerged consistently:

  • The need for an FDA indication for aging and improved regulatory pathways, which would open the door to promising therapeutics and potential investments; and
    the need for international collaboration between private and research sectors, as well as interdisciplinary research on aging.

The AFAR GeroFutures Think Tanks report summarizes key insights and recommendations for what’s needed, next.
