The TAME Trial: A Prototype for Geroscience-Guided Therapeutics
AFAR is pleased to sponsor the symposium “The TAME Trial: A Prototype for Geroscience-Guided Therapeutics” at The Gerontological Society of America’s 70th Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. The symposium will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 5 - 6:30 PM.
The symposium will cover an overview of the scientific rationale and study design for the upcoming TAME clinical trial, the role of existing and emerging biomarkers in assessing biological hallmarks of aging in humans, evidence linking biomarkers to clinically meaningful outcomes, and results of recent studies reporting effects of metformin on gene expression of metabolic and non-metabolic pathways in muscle and adipose tissues.
The symposium will feature Dr. Stephen Kritchevsky (Wake Forest University), Dr. George Kuchel (University of Connecticut), Dr. Jamie Justice (Wake Forest University) and Dr. Nir Barzilai (Albert Einstein College of Medicine).
Strengthening Aging Research: Experiences With Rigor, Reproducibility, and Transparency
The Nathan Shock Centers Coordinating Center, managed by AFAR, is sponsoring the symposium “Strengthening Aging Research: Experiences With Rigor, Reproducibility, and Transparency” at The Gerontological Society of America’s 70th Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. The symposium will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 5 - 6:30 PM.
The symposium will focus on research rigor, reproducibility, and transparency (RRT) in gerontological and aging research. This symposium will discuss RRT in relation to statistical methodology, basic science, epidemiology, and clinical research within gerontological and aging science. The goal is to facilitate a coherent and interdisciplinary conversation about RRT in the field broadly.
The symposium will feature Dr. Andrew W Brown (Indiana University), Dr. Mark Espeland (Wakeforest University), Dr. Paola Sebastiani (Boston University) and Dr. Patrick Phillips (University of Oregon).
