45th Anniversary and 2025 Annual Report

AFAR is pleased to share “A Community of Discovery”, our 45th Anniversary and 2025 Annual Report, highlighting:

  • A community of collaboration fueled by AFAR’s early support: Introduced by AFAR Scientific Director Steven N. Austad, PhD, the feature story spotlights collaborations among AFAR-funded investigators at leading institutions, whose work continues to advance discoveries in healthy aging. At Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Nir Barzilai, MD, and Sofiya Milman, MD, have built on their AFAR-supported research; at Cedars-Sinai, Sara Espinoza, MD, James L. Kirkland, MD, PhD, and Nicolas Musi, MD, have pursued collaborative approaches to aging research; and at UCLA, Anthony Covarrubias, PhD, and Thomas A. Rando, MD, PhD, continue to explore the biology of aging. Together, their stories illustrate the lasting impact of investing early in promising scientists and the collaborations that grow from that support.
  • Longstanding programs and partnerships that have grown through AFAR's leadership and support, alongside new collaborations and initiatives that are expanding the reach and impact of healthy aging research.
  • AFAR is furthering the field through our SuperAgers and Amplifying Geroscience strategic initiatives, as well as through the leadership we provide for three NIA-funded initiatives: the Clinician-Scientists Transdisciplinary Aging Research (Clin-STAR) Coordinating Center, the Nathan Shock Centers Coordinating Center (NSC3), and the Research Centers Collaborative Network (RCCN).
  • AFAR's 2025 grant recipients, scientific awards, and annual meetings.

The accomplishments detailed in this report are made possible thanks to our invaluable supporters, board members, and staff's continued commitment to AFAR’s work to support promising research that will help us all live healthier, longer.
