In Memoriam: Vice Chair Emerita Diane Nixon

AFAR is deeply saddened by the passing of Vice Chair Emerita Diane Nixon on June 25, 2024.

A close associate of founder Irving S. Wright, MD, Ms. Nixon was an early and ongoing champion of aging research and AFAR. She served as an active member of AFAR’s Board of Directors and Vice Chair from 1989 – 2011, and she was elected Vice Chair Emerita in 2012.

For more than thirty years, she was instrumental in raising funds and awareness for AFAR’s mission, which continued long after her official terms on our Board.

Through the Deeds Foundation, founded with her mother, she helped direct philanthropy to the arts, education, medicine, and those less fortunate at major institutions and services nationwide.

For more on her passion for philanthropy and travel, please read an Obituary here.

We are immensely grateful for her decades of dedication and honored that she requested that donations in her memory may be made to AFAR.

Per her request, donations can be made to AFAR in honor of Diane Nixon by contacting Kelly Whalen, Director of Development, at kelly@afar.org or online here.
