Board Member in the News: Senior Scientific Director Steven Austad releases new book, Methuselah’s Zoo

AFAR is pleased to announce the publication of Methuselah’s Zoo: What Nature Can Teach Us about Living Longer, Healthier Lives by Senior Scientific Director and Interim Chair Steven N. Austad, PhD. Released on August 16, 2022, by MIT Press, the book follows in the footsteps of his international best-seller, Why We Age.

In Methuselah's Zoo, Dr. Austad investigates what humans can learn about increased healthspan and lifespan by observing how long-lived animals in the wild successfully avoid both environmental hazards and the depredations of aging.

The Atlantic and Salon have published an excerpt, and the book has received a positive review in Science.

Dr. Austad is the Protective Life Endowed Chair in Healthy Aging Research and a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the founding director of UAB’s Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging, and co-director of the UAB Integrative Center for Aging Research, as well as the Co-Principal Investigator of the Nathan Shock Centers Coordinating Center.

Order Methuselah's Zoo here.

Save the Date for Wednesday, October 26, when Dr. Austad joins Prevention's Editor in Chief Sarah Smith to discuss Methuselah's Zoo in our free Live Better Longer webinar. Learn more and RSVP here.
