Highlights from the 2024 AFAR Scientific Awards of Distinction Presentation

On Thursday, November 14th, 2024, AFAR presented several of its Annual Scientific Awards of Distinction in a ceremony at the GSA 2024 Annual Scientific Meeting in Seattle, Washington.

The Inaugural George M. Martin Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award was presented to Steven N. Austad, PhD, by Dr. Martin's grandson, Benjamin Barad, PhD, Assistant Professor in Chemical Physiology and Biochemistry at Oregon Health & Science University and the third generation of scientists in the Martin family lineage.

2024 Terrie Fox Wetle Rising Star Award in Health Services and Aging Research Recipient Megan Huisingh-Scheetz, MD, MPH, AGSF, presented the lecture: "Harnessing Health Services Research to Fuel Frailty Implementation and Innovation."

Peter Abadir, MD, accepted the 2024 Irving S. Wright Award of Distinction on behalf of Jeremy D. Walston, MD.
