The cover story of the January 2022 issue of BBC Science Focus magazine spotlighted a range of exciting advances in aging research led by AFAR experts, including the hallmarks of aging, senolyticsand gerotherapeutics, the Dog Aging Project, the AFAR-managed TAME Trial, and more.
AFAR Scientific Director Nir Barzilai, MD, AFAR Board Member Jim Mellon, and grantee Ming Xu, PhD are quoted.
In addition to serving as AFAR’s Scientific Director, Dr. Barzilai is a 1994 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research and AFAR Grants for Junior Faculty recipient, a 1997 Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging scholar, a 2010 Irving S. Wright Award of Distinction recipient, and the Director at the Institute for Aging Research and distinguished Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Mr. Mellon is the recipient of AFAR’s 2018 George E. and Mary J. Doty Award.
Dr. Xu is a 2019 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research and AFAR Grants for Junior Faculty recipient and a 2014 Irene Diamond Fund/AFAR Postdoctoral Transition Awards in Aging recipient. He is also an Assistant Professor at the UConn Center on Aging and the Department of Genetics and Genome Sciences at the University of Connecticut.
