AFAR Grantees in the News: Research published in Molecular Cell by three AFAR Postdoctoral Grantees

On August 22nd 2024, Molecular Cell published research co-authored by three AFAR Grantees: Peter D. Adams, PhD, Nirmalya Dasgupta, PhD, Karl N. Miller, PhD. The research examines how senescent cells interacting with a particular protein contributes to inflammation. This discovery could lead to drug therapies in the future that could prevent or reduce age-related illnesses caused by chronic inflammation.

Dr. Dasgupta shares in a Sanford Burnham Presbyterian press release: "An alternative view is that senescence has had a role throughout evolution so removing it could be harmful. Under this view, reducing the inflammation from [senescence-associated secretory phenotype] may be more helpful and less risky, so learning more about its causes is crucial.”

Dr. Adams is a 2018 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research Postdoctoral Fellowships in Aging Research recipient.

Dr. Dasgupta is a 2019 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research Postdoctoral Fellowships in Aging Research recipient.

Dr. Miller is a 2018 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research Postdoctoral Fellowships in Aging Research recipient.
