Linking long-lived protein maintenance, nuclear protein homeostasis, and brain aging

Dr. Cho is investigating the molecular mechanisms that contribute to nuclear aging in neurons. His studies explore age-related changes in the nuclear proteome, building upon on the hypothesis that chemical modifications of nuclear pore proteins are key drivers of the aging process. His work may reveal new biological factors and pathways that influence protein homeostasis, and provide new avenues for studying the “normal” aging process and for developing therapies against age-related disease.  This study has the potential to create a better understanding of nuclear barrier degeneration and its relationship to brain aging, as well as generate a genetic tool that could detect and potentially counteract the nuclear barrier decline.
