News from the Field: International Perspectives on Geroscience Meetings kick off in Shenzhen and San Francisco
AFAR is pleased to help coordinate a series of International Perspectives on Geroscience Meetings, organized by the Nathan Shock Centers of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging in collaboration with a range of institutional partners in host cities. A range of AFAR experts are presenting at the meetings and serving as co-chairs and lead organizers.
China
The first meeting kicked off in Shenzhen, China from May 24-25, 2019 at the Marco Polo Hotel. Co-Chairs of the Steering Committee included AFAR experts Sean X. Leng, MD, PhD, and Brian Kennedy, PhD. Topics included principles of geroscience, pillars of aging, resilience, and immune aging, anti-aging research and translation, traditional Chinese medicine and aging, stem cell research and regenerative medicine, artificial intelligence and aging, and infrastructure and platform building for geroscience. AFAR experts who presented included: Heinrich Jasper, PhD, Felipe Sierra, PhD, and Raymond Yung, MD.
The meeting was co-sponsored by the Irma and Paul Milstein Program for Senior Health, the Milstein Medical Asian American Partnership (MMAAP) Foundation, and the Chinese Medical Association Geriatrics Branch, China National Center of Geriatrics and Gerontology.

San Francisco
The second meeting was held in San Francisco, CA from May 29-30, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport in Burlingame, CA. Topics included emerging technologies in geroscience, international perspectives and issues in geroscience, aging medicine today and how geroscience can impact people now, aging medicine tomorrow and where geroscience may take us, and geroscience in the private sector. AFAR experts who presented included: Judy Campisi, PhD, Mark Collins, Ned David, PhD, Matt Kaeberlein, PhD, and Felipe Sierra, PhD. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the American Aging Association (AGE).

• Australia: Aug 26-28 in Sydney
• Israel: Sept 4-5 in Rehovot
• Europe: Sept 13-14 in Madrid, Spain, co-organized by AFAR experts Ana Maria Cuervo, MD, PhD, and Rafael de Cabo, PhD.
• Singapore: Sept 25-26, co-organized by AFAR expert Brian Kennedy, PhD.
• Chile: November 18-21 in Puerto Varas, co-organized by AFAR expert Felipe Sierra, PhD.
