At the December 2016 AFAR board meeting, Mark S. Lachs, M.D., M.P.H., was appointed President of the Board of Directors and Rudolph E. Tanzi, Ph.D. was elected as a board member.

Mark S. Lachs, M.D., M.P.H., is the Director of Geriatrics for the New York Presbyterian Health System, and Professor of Medicine and Co-Chief of the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology at Weill Medical College. Dr. Lachs is pioneer in researching elder abuse and serves as the Executive Director at the New York City Elder Abuse Center. A member of the Board of Directors for sixteen years, Dr. Lachs also has served on the Program Advisory Committee for the Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award, served as a Beeson and MSTAR mentor, and was a 1995 Paul B. Beeson Scholar. Learn more about Dr. Lachs here.

Rudolph E. Tanzi, Ph.D is the Director of Genetics and Aging Research Unit at MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease and the holder of the Joseph P. and Rose F. Kennedy Endowed Chair in Neurology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Tanzi’s background and expertise is in neurological diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease. In 2015, Tanzi was named on the “TIME 100 Most Influential People in the World” TIME magazine list. Learn more about Dr. Tanzi here.

In their new roles, Lachs and Tanzi join recently appointed board members Richard G.A. Faragher, Ph.D. and David A. Sinclair, Ph.D.
