Industry Announcement: Board Members publish new book, “Aging: The Longevity Dividend”
Released in December 2015, Board Members James Kirkland, and S. Jay Olshansky and Scientific Director Emeritus George M. Martin served as editors for the new Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press book, Aging: The Longevity Dividend.
Aging: The Longevity Dividend examines the biological basis of aging, strategies that may extend health span, and the societal implications of delayed aging. In addition to a comprehensive examination of the biology of aging, the authors consider the socioeconomic benefits and costs of delayed aging and also outline directions for future research and translational efforts.
Ten AFAR-affiliated experts have contributed essays, including: Scientific Director Steven N. Austad, Deputy Scientific Director Nir Barzilai, 2014 Cristofalo Award winner Rafael de Cabo, 2000 AFAR Research Grant and 2007 BIG award recipient Matt Kaeberlein, 2015 AFAR Research Grant recipient Dudley W. James Kirkland, MD, PhD, is the director of the Robert and Arlene Kogod Center on Aging at the Mayo Clinic and the 2012 recipient of a Glenn/AFAR Breakthroughs in Gerontology Award.
S. Jay Olshansky, PhD, is a Professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Research Associate at the Center on Aging at the University of Chicago and at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
George M. Martin, MD is a Professor of Pathology Emeritus at the University of Washington.
