Grantees in the News: Sebastian Brandhorst and Valter Longo’s research in Cell Reports on Fasting-Mimicking Diet to Reduce Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
On March 5, 2019, Cell Reports published research co-authored by AFAR experts Sebastian Brandhorst,PhD and Valter Longo, MD exploring how a fast-mimicking diet may reduce the effects of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Fasting primes the body for improvement but it is “re-feeding” that allows cells and tissues to rebuild, their research found.
Dr. Brandhorst is a 2017 Irene Diamond Fund/AFAR Postdoctoral Transition Awards in Aging recipient.
Dr. Longo is a 1998 AFAR Research Grant for Junior Faculty recipient and 2013 Vincent Cristofalo Rising Star Award in Aging Research recipient.
