Grantees in the News: New York Times article on Supercentenarian DNA sites several AFAR experts View MoreBACK

On November 13, 2017, The New York Times highlighted 1998 Beeson Scholar Thomas T. Perls, MD, MPH, FACP in a feature exploring the role of genetic in the healthspan of “Supercentenarians.”

The article, “The Secret to Long Life? It May Lurk in the DNA of the Oldest Among Us”, highlighted Dr. Perl’s research with centerarian DNA and the New England Centenarian Study.

The article also links to related research by a range of AFAR experts including:

--A study co-authored by Dr. Perls with AFAR Deputy Scientific Director Nir Barzilai, MD in The Journal of Gerontology

--A Science article co-authored by Scientific Director Emeritus George M. Martin, MD with University of Washington Nathan Shock Center Co-Directors Peter S.
