On March 13, 2019, Neurology published research co-authored by AFAR experts Cynthia M. Carlsson, MD, MS, Dena Dubal, MD, PhD, and Ozioma C. Okonkwo, PhD on the influence of  KLOTHO gene on Alzheimer's and age-related disease.

Dr. Carlsson is a 2005 Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging scholar, former Beeson Advisory Committee member, and former John A. Hartford Centers of Excellence Fellow.

Dr. Dubal is a  2015 AFAR Research Grant for Junior Faculty recipient, 2009 Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging scholar, and 1998 Glenn/AFAR Scholarships for Research in the Biology of Aging recipient.

Dr. Okonkwo is a 2013 Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging scholar.
