On July 11, 2019, The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology published research coauthored by AFAR expert Luigi Fontana, MD, PhD, that suggests small caloric restrictions of approximately 300 calories per day in young and middle-aged individuals may lead to long-term health benefits.
Dr. Fontana is a 2009 Glenn/AFAR Breakthroughs in Gerontology Award recipient and 2016 Vincent Cristofalo Rising Star Award in Aging Research recipient. He is a Professor, Leonard P. Ullman Chair in Translational Metabolic Health, and Director of the Healthy Longevity Research and Clinical Program at the University of Sydney.
