Experts in the News: Valter Longo and Satchidananda Panda’s research on the benefits of caloric restriction highlighted in Medium elemental

On January 13, elemental highlighted research from AFAR experts Valter Longo, PhD, and Satchidananda Panda, PhD, in an overview history of caloric restriction and intermittent fasting, which can improve healthspan and lower the risk of age-related diseases.

Dr. Longo is a 1998 AFAR Research Grant for Junior Faculty recipient, as well as a 2013 Vincent Cristofalo Rising Star Award in Aging Research recipient. He is also the Edna M. Jones Professor of Gerontology and a Professor of Biological Sciences at the Leonard Davis School at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Panda is a 2014 Medical Student Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) fellow, as well as a Professor in the Regulatory Biology Laboratory at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies.

Dr. Longo and Dr. Panda previously presented a webinar on caloric restriction, the fasting-mimicking diet, and the circadian code. This webinar was hosted by AFAR and Next Avenue, and moderated by AFAR Senior Scientific Director Steven Austad, PhD.
