On November 21, 2019, Alzheimer’s & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer’s Association published research co-authored by AFAR experts Tamara Fong, PhD, Sharon K. Inouye, MD, and Edward Marcantonio, MD.

Their study explores a genetic risk factor— the APOE ɛ4  gene--for Alzheimer’s disease that may indirectly influence patients’ risk of postoperative delirium.

Dr. Fong is a 1995 Medical Student Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) program awardee, as well as an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Dr. Inouye is a 1989 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research and AFAR Grants for Junior Faculty recipient. She is also a Professor of Medicine at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center.

Dr. Marcantonio is a 1999 Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging scholar, and a Professor of Medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
