Experts in the News: Steven Austad and Stephen Kritchevsky on how to prevent Inflammaging in The New York Times View MoreBACK

On December 23, 2019, The New York Times featured insights from AFAR experts Steven N. Austad, PhD, and Stephen B Kritchevsky, PhD, on how eliminating senescent cells and regular exercise can reduce age-related inflammation, or inflammaging, and extend healthspan. The article also emphasizes the potential of metformin to prevent inflammaging, which will be tested in the upcoming TAME Trials.

Dr. Austad is AFAR’s Scientific Director. He is also a distinguished professor and Chair of the Department of Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, as well as Co Principle-Investigator of the Nathan Shock Centers of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging Coordinating Center.

Dr. Kritchevsky is the Co-Principal Investigator of the Research Centers Collaborative Network of the National Institute of Aging, NIH, which AFAR also manages. Dr. Kritchevsky is also the Co-PI of the TAME Trial’s Clinical and Multi-Center studies.
