On February 6, 2019, Nature published research co-authored by AFAR experts Marco De Cecco, PhD, Vera Gorbuonova, PhD, and Steven L. Helfand, MD that found that an HIV drug significantly reduces age-related inflammation and other signs of aging in mice.

Dr. De Cecco is a 2015 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research Postdoctoral Fellowship in Aging Research recipient.

Dr. Gorbunova is a 2005 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research and AFAR Grants for Junior Faculty receipient.

Dr. Helfand is a 2014 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research Breakthroughs in Gerontology (BIG) Award winner, 1995 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research and AFAR Grants for Junior Faculty recipient, and 1992 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research and AFAR Grants for Junior Faculty recipient.

Although the study—“L1 drives IFN in senescent cells and promotes age-associated inflammation”— is available by subscription only on Nature here, read a related Science Daily feature here.
