On January 8, 2020, JAMA Network Open published new AFAR-funded research by AFAR experts May Hua, MD, MSc, and R. Sean Morrison, MD that found that implementing hospital-based palliative care services in New York State reduces treatment intensity at the end of life for hospitalized patients.

Dr. Hua is a 2015 Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging scholar, as well as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology (In Epidemiology) at the Columbia University Medical Center.

Dr. Morrison is a 2000 Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging scholar. He is also an Ellen and Howard C. Katz Professor and Chair at the Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

This research was partially funded by Dr. Hua’s Beeson scholarship.
