Board Member in the News: Steven Austad’s latest PBS Next Avenue Column, “What Space Flight Teaches Us About Aging"
On July 24, 2019, Next Avenue published the latest column by AFAR Scientific Director Steven N. Austad, PhD.
In commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, Dr. Austad explains what we have learned about aging by studying older astronauts. The article also references the 1998 mission by late AFAR Board Member John Glenn.
In addition to serving as AFAR’s Scientific Director, Dr. Austad is a distinguished professor and Chair of the Department of Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, as well as Co Principle-Investigator of the Nathan Shock Centers of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging Coordinating Center.
