On January 22, 2020, Next Avenue published the latest column by AFAR Senior Scientific Director Steven N. Austad, PhD.

Dr. Austad’s article explores various “biological clocks,” including how studies showing how our blood can be used to calculate biological age. One recent study by several AFAR experts highlights the potential use of plasma proteins, while additional research suggests that the DNA in white blood cells can reveal our biological calendars.

In addition to serving as AFAR’s Scientific Director, Dr. Austad is a distinguished professor and Chair of the Department of Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, as well as Co Principle-Investigator of the Nathan Shock Centers of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging Coordinating Center.
