Aging Research in the News: The NY Times praises “The Age of Aging” featuring AFAR experts

On October 30th, the New York Times released a review of National Geographic Channel’s new scientific documentary series, “Breakthrough,” naming the “The Age of Aging” episode as the highlight of the season.

Directed and narrated by Ron Howard, “Breakthrough: The Age of Aging” will include AFAR Scientific Director Steven Austad, PhD; Deputy Scientific Director Nir Barzilai, MD; and Board Members James Kirkland, MD, PhD and S. Jay Olshansky, PhD.

Of the episode, the Times stated, “ [Ron Howard is] really interested in a group of scientists who are trying to change the medical establishment’s mind-set so that aging is tackled in the same way a disease is: as something that can perhaps be treated and slowed. Advances in this line of research are detailed, and by the end of the episode people in Mr. Howard’s age bracket—he is 61—might well think that they can put off making that last will and testament a bit longer.”
