What Can Dogs Teach Us About Aging Well?” explores research to understand what canine longevity reveals about human healthspan.

The column focuses on The Dog Aging Project, which is led 2007 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research Breakthroughs in Gerontology (BIG) Award recipient Matt Kaeberlein, Ph.D. and 1996 AFAR Research Grant for Junior Faculty and 2010 Glenn/AFAR Breakthroughs in Gerontology Award recipient Daniel Promislow, Ph.D. Doctors Kaeberlein and Promislow lead research at the University of Washington Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging, for which AFAR serves as the coordinating center.

Steven N. Austad, Ph.D., is a Distinguished Professor and Department Chair at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Dr. Austad is also the Director of the Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging at the University of Alabama Birmingham, and Co-Principal Investigator of the Nathan Shock Centers program, for which AFAR serves as the Coordinating Center.
