AFAR Awards Dinner Celebrates West Coast Leaders in Aging Research
On October 29, AFAR celebrated its 2013 Annual Awards Dinner at the California Club in Los Angeles, California.
Over 60 supporters, grantees, board members, and guests gathered as AFAR presented Awards of Distinction to the following:
The George E. and Marie J. Doty Award
Marty Blank and Richard Ziman accept the award on behalf of The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation for the Foundation's commitment to funding research in Alzheimer's Disease.
The Chairman's Award of Distinction
Michael Varney, PhD and Andrew Chan, MD, PhD received the Chairman's Award of Distinction for their work with Genentech.
The AFAR Award of Distinction
Ashley Campbell accepts a surprise AFAR Award of Distinction on behalf of the Campbell family for their work in Alzheimer's advocacy.
AFAR also recognized Valter Longo, PhD, Edna M. Jones Professor of Gerontology and Professor of Biological Sciences at University of Southern California Davis School of Gerontology with the Vincent J. Cristofalo Rising Star in Aging Research Award and Gary Ruvkun, PhD, Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School with the Irving S. Wright Award of Distinctiion.
We were delighted to have David Reuben, MD, of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA deliver the keynote address.
Earlier that day, the Awards dinner kicked off with an engaging panel discussion facilitated by AFAR's Deputy Medical Director, Steven Austad, MD, and featuring Valter Longo, PhD, Julie Andersen, PhD, and Matt Kaeberlein, PhD.
