AFAR 35th Anniversary and 2015 Annual Report: From Hope to Promise
As AFAR looks back at 2016 and our impact on the field for more than three decades, we are proud to share our special 35th Anniversary and 2015 Annual Report, From Hope to Promise.
The report spotlights decades of AFAR-supported research in the lab that have brought us to the threshold of being able to keep people healthier longer. Thanks to this momentum, the question is no longer whether we can delay the onset of age-related illness, but when.
First, Years of Hope: Expanding Knowledge, Building the Field, highlights AFAR’s early momentum which established the field of aging research by supporting biomedical research on the processes of aging and encouraging research physicians focusing on geriatric issues.
Second, Years of Promise: Translating Research to Keep Us Healthier Longer, looks at how AFAR’s 35 years of investment has been influential in helping position the longer-term socioeconomic benefits of aging research, or the Longevity Dividend and introducing geroscience.
Next, AFAR’s Scientific Director Steven Austad, PhD provides an overview of Ten Major Discoveries in Aging Research that AFAR experts have helped drive in our 35 years.
Additionally, the report highlights AFAR’s 2015 activities, explains how our review process ensures that AFAR grants delivers on the promise of healthy aging, and spotlights testimonials from past grantees on the impact that AFAR’s support has made on their careers and the field at large.
