AFAR congratulates Anne Brunet, PhD, and AFAR awardee Andrew Dillin, PhD, for receiving the 2022 Lurie Prize in Biomedical Sciences from The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH). The prize recognizes outstanding achievement by promising scientists aged 52 or younger.
Dr. Brunet is a 2005 Pfizer/AFAR Innovations in Aging Research Grant Programrecipient, and a 2012 AFAR Vincent Cristofalo Rising Star Award in Aging Research award recipient.

Dr. Brunet was awarded for her work showing how specific biochemical modifications of the protein structures around which an organism’s DNA is organized can extend its life and that of its descendants. She is the Michele and Timothy Barakett Endowed Professor of Genetics at Stanford University.
Dr. Dillin received the award for his research on how mitochondria in neurons of the brain coordinate responses throughout the body that impact lifespan. He is a Professor in the Department of Molecular & Cell Biology in the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute at the University of California, Berkeley.
