Edward Chouchani, PhD, and Omer Yilmaz, MD, PhD receive 2022 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research BIG Awards
AFAR and the Glenn Foundation for Medical Research are pleased to announce this year’s Breakthroughs in Gerontology (BIG) Award recipients: Edward Chouchani, PhD, and Omer Yilmaz, MD, PhD.
This grant initiative provides support to a small number of research projects which if successful offer significant promise of yielding transformative discoveries in the fundamental biology of aging. In 2022, two three-year awards were made at the level of $300,000 total ($100,000 per year).
With the BIG Award, Dr. Chouchani's research will explore defining the functional landscape of protein redox regulation during aging. He is an Associate Professor of Cancer Biology and Group Leader of the Chouchani Lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and an Associate Professor of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School. With the support of this award, Dr. Yilmaz will investigate the role of dysregulated methionine metabolism in the aged intestinal stem cell stromal niche. He is the Eisen and Change Career Development Professor, Associate Professor of Biology, and Intramural Faculty at Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
