AFAR is pleased to announce that grantee and Board member Thomas Rando, MD, PhD, has been elected to the esteemed American Academy of Arts and Sciences on April 23, 2020.

The Academy recognizes Dr. Rando for his research focusing on understanding the biological signals that activate stem cells in response to injury or other environmental cues, particularly in the context of aging.

Dr. Rando is a 2008 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research Breakthroughs in Gerontology (BIG) Award recipient and an AFAR board member. He is also the Principal Investigator of the Thomas Rando Lab, the Director of the Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging, the Deputy Director of the Stanford Center on Longevity, and a Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University.
