On November 18, 2018, AFAR Deputy Scientific Director, Nir Barzilai, M.D., received the 2018 Fondation IPSEN Longevity Prize during the Annual Meeting of the Gerontological Society of America. Now in its 22nd year, this prize is awarded to an international researcher—a biologist, geneticist, gerontologist, psychologist, demographer, or statistician--in recognition of an outstanding contribution in the field of longevity.  Notably, several other AFAR experts have received this esteemed award in the recent past, including Scientific Director Emeritus George M. AFAR is saddened to report the sudden death of respected physician-researcher Arti Hurria, M.D. Dr. Hurria received a Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging in 2005 from AFAR. Dr. Hurria was well-regarded for her collaborative and innovative research in geriatric oncology, such as a recent article on functional decline in older, female chemotherapy patients.
