AFAR Welcomes Two New Members to our Board of Directors

AFAR News

AFAR is pleased to announce two new members of its Board of Directors: James Fickel and Andre Bertram. Each brings a unique set of expertise and experience that will help further facilitate and expand AFAR’s continued mission.

Fickel

Mr. Fickel is the founder of Amaranth, a company that assembles a group of luminaries in longevity biotech to source and evaluate grant proposals covering the aggregome, brain aging, computational genomics, and immune system replacement. He has also staffed 6 consultants to push forward projects in the longevity field, including road mapping, bottleneck compilation, outreach, and technical due diligence. Through the Fickel Family Foundation, he has helped launch and support two new strategic initiatives for AFAR: the SuperAgers Family Initiative and the Longevity Undergraduate Program.

Beltram

Mr. Bertram is the cofounder and CEO of HelpWear, which builds a continuous clinical grade ECG monitor, worn on a patient's bicep, for the detection and better treatment of patients who experience cardiac arrhythmias. He also cofounded Beyond Aging, a philanthropic entity designed to identify the barriers to commercialization in the field of geroscience, which supports institutions in overcoming them, bringing more young technologists and donors into the field. Mr. Bertram is a founding member of the Longevity Biotechnology Association, a Combinator alumni, and Thiel Fellow.
