AFAR recognizes Malene Hansen with 2021 Irving S. Wright Award of Distinction

AFAR is proud to announce the recipient of our 2020 Irving S. Wright Award of Distinction, Malene Hansen, PhD.

The award is named in honor of AFAR’s founder to recognize exceptional contributions to basic or clinical research in the field of aging.

Dr. Hansen is a 2020 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research Breakthroughs in Gerontology (BIG) Award recipient, as well as a 2005 Ellison Medical Foundation and AFAR Senior Postdoctoral Fellow recipient, a 2010 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research and AFAR Grants for Junior Faculty recipient, and a 2014 Julie Martin Mid-career Awards in Aging Research recipient. She is also the Chief Scientific Officer and Professor at the Buck Institute, and formerly the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Professor of Development at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute.

The awards will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Gerontological Society of America in November 2021, where Dr. Hansen will present on the role of cellular recycling in aging.
