AFAR Grantees in the news: New research co-authored by Turan Aghayev, MD, PhD, and Saul Villeda, PhD, on proteins that may speed up tissue repair in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

On January 9th, 2026, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences published new research co-authored by Turan Aghayev, MD, PhD, and Saul Villeda, PhD, on newly identified gene regulators that could possibly restore aging‑related decline in tissue repair.

Dr. Aghayev is a 2023 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research Postdoctoral Fellowships in Aging Research recipient.

Dr. Villeda is a 2021 McKnight Brain Research Foundation Innovator Awards in Cognitive Aging and Memory Loss recipient.
