AFAR Expert in the News: Barzilai on advances in aging research in two-part interview on AgeWise podcast

In May 2023, the Age Wise podcast featured AFAR Scientific Director Nir Barzilai, MD, in a two-part interview series. Dr. Barzilai discusses the most promising developments in the field of aging research and geroscience with Age Wise host, Silver Solutions CEO Dan Lagani.

In part one, Dr. Barzilai discusses what inspired him to begin his research, the meaning of “lifespan” versus “healthspan”, the importance of senescent cells in preventing age-related diseases, and the potential impact of regenerative medicine. Watch here.

In part two, he discusses AFAR-backed initiatives—the TAME Trial, the SuperAgers Family Study, and the FAST Initiative—that are furthering the field, as well as his book, Age Later: Health Span, Life Span, and the New Science of Longevity. Watch here.

A multiple AFAR grantee, Dr. Barzilai is also the director of the Institute for Aging Research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Human Aging Research, and of the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Nathan Shock Centers of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging. He is the Ingeborg and Ira Leon Rennert Chair of Aging Research, professor in the Departments of Medicine and Genetics, and a member of the Diabetes Research Center and of the Divisions of Endocrinology & Diabetes and Geriatrics.
