AFAR encourages petition to Renew NIH Support for The Dog Aging Project

AFAR encourages our community to sign a petition urging the NIH to renew its support of the pathbreaking Dog Aging Project, founded by AFAR grantees Matt Kaeberlein, PhD, and Daniel Promislow, DPhil, at the University of Washington.

Sign the petition to Monica M. Bertagnolli, MD, Director of the National Institutes of Health, here.

The petition explains:

Initiated with National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding in 2018, this project aims to understand aging in dogs, and to ultimately help us extend healthy lifespan of both humans and pets. It has surpassed all expectations, even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic’s challenges, with substantial achievements such as:

  • Creating the largest longitudinal study of aging in the world
  • Publishing over 50 influential peer-reviewed papers
  • Developing a free, open-access database with more than 36.5 million data points
  • Initiating the first-ever randomized clinical trial for longevity

These efforts have sparked global research and inspired biotechnology companies to seek new life-extending treatments.

Learn more at the Dog Aging Project website here.

Sign the petition here. Thank you!
