2017 Scientific Meetings
From June 4–7, AFAR hosted our annual scientific meetings in Santa Barbara, California. Ninety attendees convened to hear reports on AFAR-supported research and share insights on emerging directions in the field. New Board Members

At its June 13 meeting, the AFAR Board of Directors elected three new members: AnnaRosa Miele - CEO and Co‐Founder of Aristea Group; Thomas Rando, M.D., Ph.D. Principal Investigator of the Thomas Rando Lab at Stanford University; and Pol Vandenbroucke, M.D., M.Sc., M.B.A., F.F.P.M. - Vice President of Medical Strategy at Pfizer. AFAR congratulates Norman “Ned” Sharpless, M.D. on his recent appointment as Director of the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of HealthDr. Sharpless was a 2003 Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging scholar, served on our National Scientific Advisory Council from 2005-2011, and chaired our Glenn/AFAR Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for Translational Research on Aging Selection Committee in 2015 and 2016.
