DNA Double Strand Break repair pathway choice and repair fidelity during cellular and organismal aging

Our DNA is constantly subject to lesions and damage, which are repaired by cellular machineries. This repair, however, is not always faithful and can lead to mutations or rearrangements, which are toxic. Over time, our cells accumulate DNA damage, and the degradation of our genetic information is an important contributor to the aging process. Dr. Arnoult’s research focuses on how DNA is repaired as we age: do our cells repair DNA as well when we are older, or is this process altered, leading to a vicious cycle of DNA damage accumulation?
