Determining the effects of late-life initiated caloric restriction on aging-related cognitive decline, frailty, and H2S production

Previous studies have extensively studied the effects of caloric/dietary restriction or diet restriction mimetics in young or developing organisms. One unanswered question is, when is someone "too old" to benefit from dietary interventions? Most people would have a difficult time committing to a long-lasting (i.e., from young adulthood to end of life) dietary/caloric restriction regimen even knowing that eating healthy supports longevity and enhances overall wellbeing. Dr. Henderson seeks to find a more easily accomplishable and clinically applicable diet intervention that could make a significant impact in our community. She will look at late-life dietary interventions and their underlying mechanisms to delay and/or reverse aging-related declines in memory capacity, metabolism, and cardiovascular and neuromuscular systems.
