How does metformin block chronic inflammation in senescence and aging
Cellular senescence is a hallmark of aging and contributes to organismal dysfunction. Chronic inflammation promotes aging and many age-associated diseases. A common strategy to intervene in chronic inflammation is through diet and metabolic interventions. Dr. Xu’s group found that cytoplasmic chromatin fragments (CCF) appeared in senescent cells and naturally aged mouse tissues can promote chronic inflammation in senescence and aging. Dr. Xu’s research focuses on the mechanism of CCF formation and chronic inflammation. He proposes to investigate the connection between nutrient metabolism and chronic inflammation, hoping to develop new therapeutic interventions for age-associated inflammation.
