Elucidating intra- and inter-individual variability in proteostasis network capacity during aging
Aging is a complex biological phenomenon associated with physical and mental decline, and is a primary risk factor for developing a range of diseases. Dr. Bott’s project investigates the relative rates of age-related cellular decline in different individuals and tissues by studying the functional properties of cellular proteostasis. A better understanding of inter- and intra-individual differences may reveal why certain individuals or cell types are particularly susceptible to age-related diseases and could provide new strategies for treatment.
