Are you a researcher who is new to aging research? Or an established investigator in aging research looking for new insights on the best use of animal models in your research? Aging animal studies have special considerations, including identifying proper ages, proper number of ages to use, sample sizes at each age, and issues associated with choosing genetic backgrounds. Join the Nathan Shock Centers Coordinating Center for a webinar that will provide practical information on using animal models for research in the biology of aging. This one-hour webinar will cover the following:

  1. Overview of lifespan analysis
  2. Critical issues in animal husbandry
  3. Issues concerning genetic background(s)
  4. Considerations of experimental design

Featuring presentations from Arlan Richardson, PhD (Director, Oklahoma Nathan Shock Aging Center; Professor of Geriatric Medicine and Donald W. Reynolds Endowed Chair of Aging Research, Oklahoma University Health Science Center), Catherine Kaczorowski, PhD (Associate Professor and Evnin Family Chair in Alzheimer's Research, The Jackson Laboratory), and David Allison, PhD (Dean, Distinguished Professor, and Provost Professor, Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington). Moderated by AFAR Senior Scientific Director Steven N. Austad, PhD (Co-Principal Investigator of the Nathan Shock Centers Coordinating Center; Director of the UAB Nathan Shock Center; Chair and Distinguished Professor, Department of Biology, University of Alabama at Birmingham).

Presentations will be followed by a Q&A.

This webinar is geared toward aging researchers and members of the scientific community.
